Proposed Fence Line

As detailed in a recent post http://save-our-bryn.blogspot.com/2009/07/plans-are-already-drawn-up.html a Freedom of Information request to the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW)produced a copy of a plan, dated 30th April 2009, showing fence line and gates. As CCW have told us the information is covered by copyright law we aren't allowed to post their plan on the Internet however, using a GoogleMap a supporter has overlaid the approximate fence line and proposed gate location.

The combined imagine is a very close representation of CCW map reference 31WHMoo1RA but not a copy, hopefully the huge public interest means this approach will be acceptable to all however if anyone isn't happy please drop us a line and we will remove.

Myself I was surprised just how much of the open meadow is to go, I thought perhaps a few small areas, little did I imagine they wanted it all!

Extracts from the CCW documents will be published once supporters have been through it all, again hopefully the public interest means this will be allowable.

Our aim is just to publish the facts as we get them to let the public make up their own mind.

Thanks to the local 'blog master' for his kind offer of assistance.

  1. While walking on the summit of Bryn Euryn this week I was surprised at the amount of Ragwort that is growing especially in the areas that have been cleared of scrub already by contractors. Ragwort is a proven killer to livestock and horses and I have worked hard to eradicate it from my land which is very close to the Bryn. I notice from the map that the enclosed land will include all these areas where there is a high density of Ragwort growing. Presumabbly if these plans for fencing were to get the go ahead then the Ragwort would have to be removed first to ensure the livestock don't suffer a slow and painful death. More money spent in what is a badly thought out and unwanted scheme.

  2. The comment below was left on an old post (http://save-our-bryn.blogspot.com/2009/07/management-committee-meeting.html#comments), I thought it worth copying here

"This blog site has been set up to help save Bryn Euryn from the local councils attempt to turn public open space into grazing land"
I feel this is misleading. As a keen walker, I don't believe I will be prevented from walking on the grazing land as there look to be numerous gates along the proposed fence?

  3. Erik, I am please that as a keen walker you will not be put off using the Bryn if the public open space is turned into grazing land however many people will be. Whilst we are lucky to have so much grazing land 'countryside' within easy access we have, in Rhos and Colwyn Bay, a huge shortage of public open space.

There is a huge difference between grazing and open space where people can do what the want. It's just the same as if they were trying to turn the golf club, playgrounds/fields or Eirias Park over to grazing, madness

  4. While I agree that there are plenty of gates shown, the point is that alot of people won't feel safe taking their kids through fields of big animals especially after the papers have reported so many people have died crossing fields. Also I worry about leaving any animals alone up there when there have been so many drinken parties up there late at night.
I also worry that unless there are very secure fences and gates, dogs will still get in from the wooded parts and that could mean dogs will have to be on leads at all times or even banned when the ponies are on the Bryn. Then where would they go for walks? The council seen determined to build on every bit of land they can lay their hands on. The beaches are all restricted and all the countryside is full of livestock. To say this won't cause any restrictions is nuts!
